Located in Seattle, Washington, the Woodland Park Zoo is an out-of-the-box venue to host networking events, corporate meetings, bleisure getaways, companywide retreats, or family-fun days. We talked with Joanna Moore, the group sales manager for the zoo, and had her answer some questions that will tell you everything you need to know about this animal-focused spot.

What makes Woodland Park Zoo a unique venue?
Woodland Park Zoo (WPZ) is a unique venue for events because it provides a beautiful setting you won’t see anywhere else, and it offers a variety of additional experiences exclusive to the zoo. In addition to using the event space, guests have the opportunity to explore the zoo as a whole. While exploring zoo grounds, guests will discover the amazing species that live at WPZ through daily programs such as keeper talks, feeding opportunities, and ambassador animal programs.

How does having your event at the zoo benefit animals and the environment?
Hosting a meeting at the zoo benefits more than just the company; proceeds from every private event held at Woodland Park Zoo support the zoo’s exemplary animal care program, wildlife conservation projects in the Pacific Northwest and around the world, and extraordinary experiences that inspire and empower guests to stand up for wildlife.

Is the venue family friendly?
Absolutely!  From birthday parties to picnics to evening events, WPZ offers something for everyone. What better venue to enjoy a day with your family, friends or colleagues?

How is the zoo saving species?
As an Association of Zoos and Aquariums-accredited zoo we are dedicated to being leaders in conservation. The zoo supports innovative conservation work to save key species and critically endangered ecosystems around the world. We create empowering educational experiences that engender a direct connection to local and global conservation issues and encourage actions with a positive impact for animals and habitats.

What’s new for corporate events this year?
This summer, the zoo will open a new exhibit, the Assam Rhino Reserve. This new exhibit will showcase greater one-horned rhinoceros, Asian brown tortoises and demoiselle cranes; it will amplify attention on illegal wildlife trade and the turtle extinction crisis. Also new this year is Evening Zoo, where we will offer extended zoo hours for five special nights this summer. As far as animal experiences go, the zoo now has more ambassador animals available for private events including our flamingos, Pluma and Paco, and our adorable arctic fox, Hudson. Adding to the excitement, our catering partner, Lancer Catering, has created all new menus. Lancer’s menu centers around the farm-to-table philosophy to support our local resources.

Do you offer group discounts on general admission zoo tickets with corporate events?
Depending on group size, we offer discounts ranging from 20 to 50 percent off admission pricing.

Can I have a picnic at the zoo and attend a ZooTunes concert at the same time?
You can! You can have a company picnic before or during a ZooTunes concert with an exclusive viewing area.

Can we buy out the entire zoo for the day?
Yes, we offer whole zoo and half zoo buyouts for clients looking to offer their guests an exclusive experience.

What activities can we do? Are themed corporate events available?
We offer an array of activities including face painting, caricature drawings, rides on the zoo’s Historic Carousel, feeding opportunities at the zoo’s Willawong exhibit, scavenger hunts and ambassador animal encounters! We work with wonderful vendors who assist in making your vision a reality—from a carnival picnic with bouncers and lawn games, to upping the ante with a fun casino night.

What type of events can we book at the zoo?
You can host a variety of events at the zoo: picnics, company retreats, holiday parties, birthdays, weddings, private dinner or even a cocktail hour!
