Ryan Kunzer was recently hired as General Manager at Kimpton Hotel Monaco Portland.

1. What are you looking forward to the most in your new role?

I started my career at Kimpton Hotel Monaco Portland, behind the front desk, so I’m excited to once again connect with the familiar faces, the long standing employees and the many loyal guests I used to serve in years past.

2. How do you think past experiences have prepared you for this role?

I bring 14 years of Kimpton experience to this role, having previously worked at RiverPlace Hotel in Portland and the Allegro in Chicago. The passion I have for Kimpton, its culture and our employees has certainly helped prepare me for this next step in my career.

3. How did you get into the industry?

My family owns a restaurant in Toledo Ohio, and I started working there at the early age of 13 as a busboy. My father thought starting as a busboy was a little too glamorous, so he tossed me back into the dish pit. I hated it at the time, but looking back it gave me a strong work ethic and an appreciation for the behind the scenes work that often goes unnoticed in the service industry.

4. What are you hoping to achieve in your new role?

I want to help create unique experiences throughout the guest journey. When our guests depart, the goal is for them to go home and rave to friends and family not about their stay or visit but rather the experience they had at the Monaco. It’s my job to build a team that makes that possible – empower and incentivize them, and then get out of their way.

5. What do you enjoy most about the industry?

The action. It’s fast paced and no day is the same, but I love it. And hotel stories are always a crowd favorite at cocktail parties.

Under the management of Spire Hospitality, Embassy Suites by Hilton Seattle-North/Lynwood introduced a completely renovated property. The 240-suite Embassy Suites reveals two-room suites modernized with a sophisticated design, new facilities for guests to experience, and a redesigned meeting area for events. “This renovation has been a rewarding journey,” says Rachel Blake, general manager, Embassy Suites by Hilton Seattle-North/ Lynwood.

 

Food trucks may be mobile, but they aren’t going anywhere, since their popularity only seems to grow with each season. A New Jersey hotel is getting in on the fun! Along with over 18,000 sq. ft. of flexible meeting space, Embassy Suites by Hilton in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, offers the Grain & Cane “Gastro Truck” as a fun option for a mid-meeting break or post-event dining option.

 

As I write this, I’m sitting in the Indiana Convention Center for MPI’s 2018 World Education Congress. What an amazing experience. My hometown is definitely putting on a good show for everyone, complete with perfect weather and a warm, Hoosier hospitality welcome!
