The simple checked pattern of gingham conjures up images of homespun goodness. The rustic accents hint at our region’s untamed backdrop. The two combined set the table for a warm holiday party.

Of her choice of gingham for the table, designer Misty Damico says, “It has a casual ‘cabin’ feel. I felt it was a good textile for a Pacific Northwest vibe.” Damico is owner and creative producer of Luxe Event Productions, a Portland, Oregon-based specialevents firm.

The tabletop decor begins with the placement of a wide-checked runner across a rough wood table. As a nod to the area’s thick forested environment, Damico used authentic materials, such as wood block chargers made of inch-thick round slabs of tree trunks. A cedar garland, pine cones and real antlers were strewn around white taper candles. Stemware from Barclay Events and Lucite deer figurines add a few elegant touches amidst the earthier features.

Damico created the tablescape for a Luxe photo shoot—one of the many things her firm does. “We are a full-service special event production company that produces, designs and styles weddings and social events,” Damico says. Since Luxe’s inception in 2009, the Luxe team has planned everything from golf tournaments to culinary competitions. “We are very style and layer heavy in our designs because we love details,” Damico says. “Detail styling is my favorite part of my producer career.”

And while the gingham tablescape was designed to celebrate the holidays, it has a season-crossing appeal, as well. “It’s very versatile,” Damico says. “It’s perfect for a seasonal look, a Thanksgiving table or event, or a Christmas tablescape. Or it sits pretty for a year-round Pacific Northwest design.” Indeed, in December, the figurines could represent Santa’s reindeer, while in summer, they could be the wild, yet gentle, deer wandering into your vacation campsite. Damico’s favorite thing about this tablescape is “how natural meets elegant in a Pacific Northwest style.” - Steele Photography

If you want a magical setting, look to the forest, a favorite muse for event planners like Seattlebased Valley & Co. Husband-and-wife duo Nick and Aleah Valley turned to the natural Northwest backdrop to create this intimate tablescape at a backyard celebration on the first day of summer in 2014.

“We wanted to be really playful and complement the setting,” Aleah says.

When it comes to event décor, it’s hard to compete with Hawaii. The land of rain forests and volcanoes has done a fine job of creating a backdrop that leaves residents and visitors alike speechless. Viva! Event & Destination Management Executive Director Denise Ker Waldron, CMP, is not one to back away from a challenge, however. So for the past 10 years, she has been coming to the islands to provide event management, including décor, for numerous clients.
