Two of Vancouver's hottest hotels have opened under the roof the new urban resort, Parq Vancouver. Reservations began in late October for both hotels, JW Marriott Parq Vancouver and the DOUGLAS, an Autograph Collection Hotel.

Nestled in the heart of downtown Vancouver's vibrant entertainment district, these premiere destination hotels blend luxury and functionality within one complex. With 11 private gaming salons, guests can hang with lady luck in the world-class casino spanning two floors and 72,000 square feet and enjoy the picturesque British Columbia coastline and from the 30,000 square-foot rooftop park. Eight chef-driven restaurants and lounges from restaurant developers and James Beard Award nominees Elizabeth Blau and her Canadian husband, Chef Kim Canteenwalla provide an unforgettable experience that will stay with visitors long after they have departed. Parq Vancouver's 60,000 square feet of meeting and event space is easily accessed from both hotels. Boasting 13 boardrooms and ballrooms, including the biggest hotel ballroom in Vancouver, these multipurpose areas are the perfect event locations for business or pleasure.

The DOUGLAS, an Autograph Collection Hotel

Paying tribute to the Douglas firs that built Vancouver's thriving economy, the DOUGLAS, an Autograph Collection Hotel, blends elegance with nature. Guests are greeted by a wall of living greens as they enter the building, and the front desk is a 25-foot replica Douglas fir encased in glass. The 188 rooms and suites are thoughtfully decorated with warm woods and task lighting and enhanced with the latest technology to satisfy every need of the modern traveler. The hotel’s exquisitely curated collection of social spaces includes the lavishly furnished D/6 Bar & Lounge that leads out onto an elevated sixth-floor park featuring more than 200 native pines and 15,000 local plants.

The DOUGLAS pairs original touch points from Rob Wells of creative agency Sixteenfifty with thoughtful interiors by Vincent Celano of Celano Design Studio. The DOUGLAS joins the diverse portfolio of more than 100 Autograph Collection Hotels around the world - all independent, one-of-a-kind hotels. In-room amenities include purely natural Aesop products; detoxifying charcoal water; Douglas fir-infused gin crafted by a nearby distillery; and locally sourced refreshments.

Have you let your favorite vendor, event planner or venue know how much you appreciate them by voting for them in Northwest Meetings + Events Best of 2018 readers’ choice awards? No? Well, what are you waiting for? Show them some well-deserved love!

One of my first official duties as editor of Northwest Meetings + Events waaaaaaaaay back when was serving as a judge for the Emerald City Applause Awards. I remember being incredibly impressed by all of the talent in our region. I still am. Come celebrate that ingenuity at the (nearly sold out) 2018 Emerald City Applause Awards (ECAAs). Guests are encouraged to dress in accordance with the event’s theme: Seas the Night.

You’ll soon have another venue option when you’re looking to get away for a business retreat in Washington. Choice Hotels International, Inc. has signed an agreement with Sound West Group to develop a Cambria hotel in Bremerton, Washington. The five-story, 121-room hotel will be part of a mixed-use waterfront development on Marina Square, adjacent to the Bremerton Marina and the Kitsap Conference Center.
