Vancouver’s newest destination is a walk in the parq.

Two hotels, eight restaurants, one 3,326-square-foot fitness center, a spa, casino, and 60,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting and event space all add up to one highly anticipated, amenity-rich address in the entertainment district of Vancouver, British Columbia. Parq Vancouver is scheduled to open this fall, and features 517 guest rooms across two luxury brands: JW Marriott Parq Vancouver and The Douglas.

Parq Vancouver’s casino floor will feature approximately 600 slot machines and 75 table games, as well as more than 20 private gaming salons. The property’s food and beverage portfolio was conceived by James Beard Award–nominated restaurateur Elizabeth Blau and Canadian restaurateur and chef Kim Canteenwalla of Blau + Associates. It includes the farm-to-table restaurant Honey Salt, the classic comfort food of BC Kitchen, an Asian-inspired menu at Market East, seafood and steaks at The Victor, and Cantonese cuisine at 1886. In addition, signature and handcrafted cocktails can be had at Centre Bar and D/6 Bar & Lounge, and the Lotus Whiskey/Tea Lounge will serve tea by day and whiskey, Scotch and bourbon in the evening.

Built to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold standards, the building’s additional amenities will include a sixth-floor, 30,000-square-foot park landscaped with native pines and local flora.

The meeting space for Parq Vancouver will be on the fourth floor of the JW Marriott Parq Vancouver, but is accessible from The Douglas, as well. It includes:

PARQ GRAND BALLROOM: At 15,604 square feet, the Parq Grand Ballroom will be the largest hotel ballroom in the city. It features 23-foot ceilings, can be separated into six sections, and has freight elevators large enough to accommodate full-size luxury sedans.

FAIRVIEW BALLROOM: The Fairview offers 4,500 square feet of north-facing space with floor-to-ceiling windows. It can be divided into five breakout sections and opens up onto the Fairview Terrace.

KITSILANO BALLROOM: The Kitsilano is just shy of 6,000 square feet and can be separated into four sections.

FAIRVIEW TERRACE: Off the ballroom of the same name, the landscaped terrace measures 900 square feet and is fully NEW VENUE SPOTLIGHT» A WALK IN THE PARQ Vancouver’s newest destination is packed with privileges. BY TERESA KENNEY covered for year-round use.

OAK, ELM AND ASH: The three are private boardrooms with more intimate meeting space.

A meeting planner’s guide to the Parq is available online at parqvancouver. com, and Marriott’s event app, JW Event Concierge, allows planners to send immediate requests to the hotel’s event staff, such as adjusting a meeting room’s temperature or ordering additional beverage service.

Northwest planners looking to take advantage of the experiential travel trend need look no further than Victoria, British Columbia, for their next meeting or event. Located on Vancouver Island, the provincial capital is a natural playground with boundless beauty, upscale comforts and casual elegance. “We know that organizations are looking for meetings and incentive travel options that can’t be replicated,” says Miranda Ji, vice president of sales for the Victoria Conference Centre and Business Events Victoria.

Put yourself in the middle of the action next time you visit British Columbia. All three of the movies in the “Descendants” global franchise were filmed in Vancouver and Vancouver Island. With more than 300 wineries, Oregon’s Willamette Valley has become a draw for oenophiles from all over the world. On the same latitude as Burgundy, France, the area is best known for pinot noir wines that are produced with an eye to value and accessibility, and, in pure Oregon fashion, a decidedly down-to-earth vibe.
