Signature Drink: Cool Cucumber

From Silver Reef Casino in Ferndale, Washington, the Cool Cucumber is the perfect summer drink for a hot afternoon or warm evening. The subtle heat from the ginger simple syrup is quickly cooled by the cucumber and refreshed with a hint of citrus.

INGREDIENTS
— 4 slices of cucumber
— 1 lemon wedge
— 1.25 oz. Yazi ginger-flavored vodka
— 1 oz. ginger-infused simple syrup
— 3 oz. soda water
— 4 sprigs of candied ginger (optional)

Originally from Katonah, New York, she no doubt developed an interest in adventure and other cultures from her father, who worked for the United Nations. When she met her future husband, he asked her if she’d like to sail with him to Easter Island.

Gallery One Visual Art Center opened in Ellensburg, Washington, on Aug. 29, 1968, as the Ellensburg Community Art Gallery. For the next 30 years, Eveleth Green served as the gallery director, and in 1994 the name was changed to Gallery One Visual Art Center. In April 1972, the gallery relocated to the second floor of the Stewart Building.

Meet James Rahn, Sommelier Extraordinaire

Originally from Chicago, James Rahn moved to Seattle to attend college at the University of Washington. While putting himself through school waiting tables at Seattle’s iconic Café Campagne, the restaurant’s wine director took him under her wing and taught him all about wine. Rahn was hooked.

“I got bit by it,” recalls Rahn of how his love of wine developed. When he returned to Chicago, he was certified as a sommelier and became wine director at a French restaurant.
