Remote working has become mainstream with the continued presence of COVID-19. While many people have welcomed the new normal of working from home, others miss the separation of spaces, as many corporate offices have remained closed since March. Without the daily obligation to go into the office, professionals have the ability to travel more freely. Hotels across the country are creating “work from hotel” deals–a play on “work from home”–so people can explore new places while still fitting in their 9 to 5.  

Work from hotel deals vary. At Mountain Shadows Resort Scottsdale and sister property Hotel Valley Ho, the “Come & Play All Day” package offers guest room usage and free Wi-Fi during the workday, making the deal conducive to both locals looking to get out of the house and travelers passing through town. After the workday is over, the package grants access to the pool, a free in-room movie and a $40 dining credit.  

Similar to Mountain Shadows, Washington School House in Park City, Utah, offers an in-room workstation setup with a printer, office supplies and notepads. Plus, the package comes with a complimentary “Milk Break” if the need for an afternoon snack arises -- milk and cookies, cold-pressed juices and fruit, coffee and sweets and more are available.

Other hotels are transforming previously used meeting spaces into co-working spaces. Gravity Haus, in Breckenridge, Colorado, has the StarterHaus, which offers a kitchenette, printer, phone booths and more in a dog-friendly, stylish room with concrete flooring, modern leather seating and an exposed industrial ceiling. Mission Point on Mackinac Island, Michigan, recognizes that people are visiting for a mix of remote work and leisure. In response, the “Mission Point Daycation” package offers a workspace free to guests, in addition to a half-day bike rental, a Shepler’s ferry ticket, one round of golf and a $25 food and beverage voucher.

Work from hotel deals help the struggling hospitality and tourism industries to stay afloat during the pandemic, while at the same time giving professionals the opportunity to work outside the home for the first time in months.

WeVenture, a national tour operating company, has expanded its offerings to include four Seattle tours that immerse visitors in the city’s vibrant cultural scene. The company, which launched nationally earlier this year, has tours in 10 other U.S. cities including New York City, Miami, Denver, New Orleans, and Los Angeles. The Seattle tours can be an easy and fun add-on to any event in the Emerald City.

 

Portland International Airport (PDX) was famously known for its teal, geometrically patterned carpet, which was sadly removed back in 2015. But now, PDX will be known for its recently completed, unique timber ceiling. ZGF Architects worked closely with PDX for 50 years and designed this transformation to last another half century. The Portland airport is becoming one of the first to be seismic-resilient and produce low carbon emissions, thanks to the 9 acres of native Pacific Northwest hardwood used in building the terminal’s ceiling.
